This year has thrown an abundance of challenges our way and while this season is off to a rocky start with cancelled and rescheduled races, the UHCA Board of Directors is working extremely hard to salvage what we can of 2020.

It was wonderful to see everyone in June and we thank you all for coming out to R Bar B. We are doing our best to ensure that we can have more events in the fall. To be honest, between human viruses and horse viruses, not to mention unpredictable fall weather, we can’t be certain more events won’t have to be cancelled, but the Board is committed giving it everything we’ve got to put on a few more events this year.

We are still planning to have the September 12-13 event that was planned for Saddle and Sirloin however the event will now be held at Eagle Ranch in Collins, MO. The September event will be a UHCA-hosted event, which means the Board of Directors will organize the event. Eagle Ranch Resort has offered us their facility to have the event. It takes a village to run an event and the more hands the better, so we’re asking our members to lend a hand at the event to ensure it runs smoothly. We’ll be reaching out soon to see if you’d be willing to help out with scribing, timekeeping, setting up, etc. when you’re not warming up or participating in your division. Watch your email and Facebook for more information.

The events originally planned for July 18-19 have been rescheduled for October 3-4 at Irvin Ranch in Cleveland, MO. The October 17-18 event, also at Eagle Ranch is still on the calendar as well.

And while we’re on the topic of dates, mark your calendar for November 21, for the Year End Awards Banquet and Membership Meeting at the Paola Country Club.

We know that health concerns for yourself, your families, and your horses/mules are top of mind for everyone these days between COVID-19 and VSV. We will maintain our social distancing guidelines for our events and will extend those guidelines to our equine partners to ensure their health as well. Look for more information coming soon on the event registration pages regarding safety measures and requirements that you should be aware of at each venue. While we want to see you all at the upcoming races, we understand if the risks or challenges of traveling with your horses/mules are more than you want to bear under the current circumstances.

I invite you to reach out to me or other board members if you have concerns or suggestions for how UHCA can be more successful. Your feedback is important. You can always catch me at an event, but feel free to drop me an email or give me a call as well.

Thank you for being a part of the UHCA family and for your ongoing support. We look forward to seeing you soon—whenever that may be.

    Sincerely,

    Melanie Dolechek

Due to today’s news that there is a confirmed case of vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV) in Miami County, KS, the decision has been made to cancel the UHCA races scheduled for this weekend, July 18-19,  in Cleveland, MO as a precautionary measure. The virus is primarily transmitted from biting insects including flies, but can also spread by nose-to-nose contact between animals. We are disappointed to have to cancel, but feel it’s necessary to ensure the health and safety of our member’s horses and our host’s facility. Watch for more information in the coming weeks about a rescheduled date for the events. Updates will be posted on our website and Facebook page.

For July, we are making a few schedule changes. The July 18 race originally scheduled to be held in Butler, MO, will now be held at Shane Irvin’s Ranch in Cleveland, MO. We are going to make this a two-day event at Irvin Ranch so we will have two separate races on July 18 and July 19 at the same location. You must register for each day separately. Primitive camping is welcome at no cost. Pens are $15/night. Contact Shane to reserve.

The October 3 event will be removed from the calendar. Thanks for your understanding as we rearrange things a bit and try to catch up on missed events.

We are very excited to be kicking off the 2020 season on June 13 and 14 at R Bar B! We can’t wait to see you. In order to comply with state and county guidelines and for the health and safety of our competitors, we’re doing things a little different for these events. We ask that you follow these social distancing guidelines if you are planning to attend.

    • We are REQUIRING that exhibitors pre-register online for these two events (register for each event separately). You can still pay when you get there and you will still need to sign a release form when checking in. If you are paying by check, you'll need 2 separate checks as we have 2 separate event hosts. If you don’t have online access, you can text your registration info to 913-837-6034 by Thursday, June 11.
    • We are requesting that you renew your membership or join online prior to attending the race.
    • Exhibitors will take their payment and signed release form to the registration table to check in. When waiting in line, observe social distancing guidelines. Please do not congregate near the registration table or concession area. Only one person per family should come to the registration table to pay/check-in. The Event Secretary will also be available Friday evening to take payments/release forms. You can print a copy of the Release Form here.
    • Please observe social distancing guidelines of 6 feet as much as possible and be mindful of respecting others’ space. Spectators beyond immediate family of exhibitors at these two events are discouraged. If you are ill or have been recently ill, please DO NOT attend these events and put others at risk. Exhibitors and spectators/family members attend at their own risk.
    • Wearing of a mask is welcome, but not required. Please wash your hands frequently and refrain from shaking hands or hugging other individuals. Hand sanitizer will be available in areas around the concessions and registration table.
    • Exhibitors that are planning to camp overnight should also plan to observe the 6-foot distancing guidelines during non-event times and be mindful of respecting others’ space. Organizing potlucks between campers is discouraged.

We realize that these guidelines may seem extreme, but we really want to make sure everyone stays healthy and we can continue to have events throughout the season. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we all try to make the best of an unusual situation.

We now have new date for the Mid-Central Horsemen race that was originally scheduled for May 16 in Maryville, MO. The Mid-Central Horsemen’s event will now be held on SUNDAY, JUNE 14 at R BAR B the day following the R Bar B event on June 13. There will be a cattle sorting event on Saturday night, so plan to make a weekend of it and let’s get this season kicked off right!

There are a few changes that will be in effect for these two races...

We are REQUIRING that exhibitors pre-register online for these two events (register for each event separately). You can still pay when you get there and you will still need to sign a release form when checking in. If you are paying by check, you'll need 2 separate checks as we have 2 separate event hosts. Due to the COVID-19 situation, we will observe any social distancing guidelines in place at the time. We may have alternative registration procedures in place depending on current state regulations.

Spectators beyond immediate family of exhibitors at these two events are discouraged so that we can attempt to stay under the 90 person limitation on gatherings should it still be in effect for Kansas. Exhibitors and spectators/family members attend at their own risk. If you are ill or have been recently ill, please DO NOT attend these events and put others at risk.

Primitive camping is available at no extra cost. Concession stand, showers, and rest rooms available. Pens are $15/night, contact R Bar B at 785-286-3006 to reserve.

    Register for R Bar B: http://ultimatehca.com/event-3682844

    Register for Mid-Central Horsemen: http://ultimatehca.com/event-3682851

We hope you are all well and staying healthy. Please watch the website and Facebook for any further updates. We'll continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation closely and keep you informed regarding any changes.
